The Pinchot family's French Renaissance-style chateau and boyhood home of Gifford Pinchot, first Chief of the U.S. Forest Service and two-term Pennsylvania governor. Now maintained by the Forest Service, with guided mansion tours and forested grounds open to walk. The estate is as much about American conservation history as it is about the Pinchot family — Gifford Pinchot's work here helped shape the national forest system still in use today, and the surrounding grounds put that legacy in a genuinely beautiful, walkable setting. The free grounds access makes it easy to stop by even without booking a full guided tour.

Home of the Pike County Historical Society, with exhibits spanning Lenape history through the Lincoln assassination — Milford was home to Lincoln bodyguard William H. Crook, and the museum holds related artifacts alongside broader county heritage displays. The collection is broader than its Lincoln connection alone, covering Pike County's Native American history, early settlement, and industrial era across several exhibit rooms inside the historic Columns building itself. It's a manageable, well-curated stop for a group that wants a dose of regional history without committing a full day to it.

Here & Now Brewing Company is a 7-barrel brewery and restaurant on Main Street in downtown Honesdale, set in the former Woolworth's building. The interior keeps the exposed brick and original tin ceiling, with custom murals and a wood-topped bar. Beer is brewed on site and sold only here, and the rotating list runs from crisp lagers and IPAs to stouts and farmhouse ales, with house-made hard sodas and teas as well. A one-barrel system is used for small experimental batches. The kitchen cooks from scratch and buys from local farms when it can; the menu changes, but pizza is a staple. There is also a craft cocktail bar and a gift shop stocked with locally made goods and curated beer. Weekly programming has included trivia and live jazz and other music, which makes it a good evening stop after walking Main Street.

Log Tavern Brewing Co. opened its Milford taproom in November 2018, founded by Ryan Scott and Joe Fischer after years of homebrewing. The brewery occupies a converted light-industrial building on East Harford Street that the owners largely built out themselves, with hand-welded bar stools, reclaimed schoolhouse slate and other salvaged materials giving it a rustic, log-cabin feel. The wooded site overlooks Raymondskill Ridge and Sawkill Creek, and the outdoor area has fire pits and open seating. All Log Tavern beer is brewed here, and the tap list rotates through IPAs, hazy IPAs, stouts, cream ales, sours and seasonal releases. Food is limited to casual snacks such as personal pizzas and pretzels, so plan dinner elsewhere in Milford. Live music is a regular feature. The same beers are also poured at the brewery's larger second taproom in Tafton, near Lake Wallenpaupack.

Runaway Train Brewery opened in 2023 at 2 Chapel Street in Honesdale, in the building that once housed the Irving Cliff Brewery, right beside the historic Delaware & Hudson rail line. It is operated by Honesdale's Settlers Hospitality group, and the railroad theme carries through the decor and the murals by local artists. The house beer list rotates through about a dozen taps of ales, IPAs, lagers, porters and stouts, served by the pint, by the flight or to go. The full-service kitchen turns out pub food such as smash burgers, wings, a Cuban sandwich and beer-battered fish and chips. Upstairs is a game room with pool and darts, and outside there is a pet-friendly patio with seasonal seating beside the tracks. Live music is offered on select nights, and the brewery also takes private party bookings.

All of the beer is brewed at the original Milford brewery, so the tap list carries the same house range of IPAs, hazy IPAs, stouts, wheat beers and cream ales, along with wine, mixed drinks and four-packs to go. The property covers more than nine acres, and the timber-frame taproom opens onto a large outdoor area with a stone fireplace, fire pits and two covered pavilions that add seating and host live music. The kitchen keeps it simple with personal pizzas, pretzels, empanadas and snacks, and local food trucks rotate through on weekends. Mid-October Pocono Environmental Education Center

A family-friendly harvest celebration at the Pocono Environmental Education Center inside the Delaware Water Gap, with conservation exhibits, live entertainment, and local food that's been running for well over a decade. Held on PEEC's grounds inside the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the festival leans more toward conservation education than a typical carnival-style fall event, making it a good fit for a group that wants festival fun with a bit of substance behind it. Promised Land State Park sits on the Pocono Plateau in Pike County, 1,800 feet above sea level, and covers almost 3,000 acres surrounded by 12,464 acres of Delaware State Forest. The 422-acre Promised Land Lake has about 9 miles of shoreline and the 173-acre Lower Lake has almost 4, with electric-motors-only boating, five boat launches and 170 mooring spaces. Two sand beaches are open from late May to mid-September, with no lifeguards. The park has seven camping areas, 12 rustic Civilian Conservation Corps cabins at the Bear Wallow Cabin Colony, equestrian campsites, and about 50 miles of hiking trails in the park and the surrounding state forest. The Masker Museum is one of the largest Civilian Conservation Corps museums in the Commonwealth, and bald eagles have nested in the park since 1999. The land was once home to the Minsi Tribe of the Wolf Clan of the Lenni Lenape, was clear-cut by 1903, was bought by the Commonwealth from 1902 to 1904 at $0.18 to $2.00 an acre, and became Pennsylvania's fourth state park in 1905. In winter, more than 23 miles of snowmobile trails are open, and skiing and snowshoeing are permitted on all trails.
